Jian Ghomeshi is an award-winning broadcaster, writer, musician, producer, and bestselling author. He was born in England, raised in Canada, and is of Iranian descent. He attended York University in Toronto where he studied Political Science and History.
Jian is an accomplished writer whose debut book, 1982, spent six weeks at #1 on the Maclean’s Bestseller List in Canada. He has also written for numerous publications, including The Washington Post and the Globe and Mail. He was also a member of the multi-platinum-selling Canadian folk-rock group Moxy Früvous and recorded 8 albums with the band, as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Moxy Früvous released their debut album Bargainville, which went platinum in Canada in 1994. Between all eight of their albums, the band sold over 500,000 albums across Canada and the United States.
He was the host and co-creator of the national daily talk program Q on CBC Radio One and CBC TV. The show, which began in 2007, became the highest-rated cultural affairs program in Canada and also aired in the United States on PRI and NPR. In 2012, Jian won the prestigious Gold Award for Best Talk Show Host at the New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards.
His thousands of long-form interview subjects have included a variety of cultural icons such as Drake, Justin Trudeau, Leonard Cohen, Barbra Streisand, Stephen King, Al Gore, Gloria Steinem, Joni Mitchell, Salman Rushdie and Taylor Swift.
In April 2017, Jian launched a new media creative venture called The Ideation Project.
